What is a therapy session with me like?

In therapy with me I aim to create a warm, non-judgmental space where my clients can feel comfortable expressing themselves without editing or filtering their thoughts. My style is grounded in empathy and authenticity. As a whole, I work against the notion that therapists must remain “blank canvases” and think it can be helpful and also healing to see that therapists are humans too. I do this by bringing my whole self into my work and using self disclosure intentionally. I find it can help normalize certain topics and can build trust.

I also enjoy bringing humor into conversations when appropriate and like to pull in themes from pop culture or things happening in the world. Do you want to talk about relationship patterns and attachment styles after watching love is blind? Did you watch a Tiktok that you felt related to your trauma symptoms? I’m here to talk about any and all the things that are relevant and important to you.

Therapy doesn’t have to look one way and I think that’s what’s so unique and powerful about it. You can decide what feels helpful to you throughout our time together and I provide opportunities to check in on this throughout our work. Maybe we aren’t always diving deep into your trauma history, (yes sometimes we are), but other times we might be laughing or reflecting on all of your progress.

Regardless of the intervention, therapy approach or modality I use, I believe that the therapeutic relationship and building trust is the most healing part of therapy. I feel honored to get to build this with my clients and earn their trust.

If you think we could be a good fit for what you are looking for, head over to my contact page to send me a message.
