Rachel Shirley, LICSW

Hi there!

I am Rachel (she/her) and I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker.

I’m deeply passionate about advocating for social justice and helping to alleviate the stigma around mental health. I strive to align my practice with the principles antiracism, gender inclusivity, sex positivity, body positivity, and a health at every size model. Systemic oppression and discrimination can contribute to many mental health challenges, and I believe that it is essential to address these issues directly in therapy.

Why am I a therapist?

I believe that therapy is a powerful tool for healing and growth, and I feel privileged to be able to help others with their mental health care. I find deep meaning in seeing the clients I work with discover their own strength and resilience. I’m driven to create a space in my practice where you feel understood, supported and safe in the process of receiving help.

I've worked in a variety of mental health settings over the past seven years and these roles have all helped to inform how I practice now and guide my approach and understanding of how our systems can be broken and lacking in many ways. Some of my prior roles include crisis work at the inpatient hospital level, providing school based therapy to youth, family based therapy in the community, individual therapy in outpatient office settings, and leading group therapy in partial hospitalization programs. The role I enjoy the most is working one on one with clients and developing authentic, genuine connections.
